Getting married at St Michael’s

It is a gift from God when we meet another person we want to share the rest of our life with. Many people come to our church to be married. It is a place made sacred by the presence of God and the prayers and promises of many, many generations.

We also believe that God, shown to us in Jesus, is a God of forgiveness and new life. Because of this we have welcomed many couples here to be married where one or both has been married before. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.

The first thing to do is to contact Lucy Shields our Wedding Coordinator:

Lucy will help in several ways: acting as a point of contact and, in time, offering services such as booking bells and in arranging meetings with the priest who will take your wedding.

There will be an initial meeting to explain the law about marriage and describe what the church offers in the ways of options, bells, music and so on. At subsequent meetings you may meet up with with one or two other couples as part of our marriage prep – usually good fun, as well as practically and spiritually helpful. At a final session, there will be a rehearsal here at St Michael’s, usually in the fortnight prior to your wedding.

The fees for weddings are published in the notice board of the church or on the above website. The fees compare favourably with civil ceremonies and venues, and it is up to you to choose which extras you can afford.

We’d love to hear from you and help you to make your marriage vows together in front of family and friends and most importantly in the presence of God who we believe has brought you together.

With every blessing for the journey ahead.
